The November FPS debate: Battlefield 1,Titanfall 2, or Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare?

So 3 big FPS games came out this November. You have your hard earned money on-hand and you want to figure out which of the 3 to buy. It’s a blockbuster month and all 3 are good! Reason why it’s so hard to pick. But let me tell you my own thoughts on which of the 3 would fit you best. I won’t tell you exactly which one to buy, but I’ll lay down all my opinions on which fits for who while giving my own opinions and preference. Here we go:

Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare – COD: IW is a very sci-fi categorized FPS game. Sending you off into orbit with a version of the world that has already occupied space. A lot of people might find this too extreme for a COD game venturing off into space. To be honest, I was too thinking of how this was a terrible choice for the COD franchise to move into. I actually bought the game in Legendary edition really mostly just for the Modern Warfare remaster inclusion. Alas, COD: IW was actually good!

The campaign of COD: IW is the cream of the crop. Story, capability to freely choose side missions. Yes, you heard me right, side missions. COD now has side missions. So now, why choose COD: IW over the other two? Campaign, the campaign is very good story wise and also with variety. You battle a variety of enemies and also get to use the Jackal very often. Campaign is lengthy enough too. For the multiplayer aspect, it doesn’t strike me much as it’s just way too run and gun. Those who prefer a run and gun style multiplayer just mindlessly stacking kills will like this. But for those who are more into tactical and exciting combat, this one’s not really for you.

Battlefield 1 – Oh the beauty and distraught of war… Battlefield 1 is extremely stellar at capturing the reality and authenticity of warfare. This is no run and gun game, this can or not be a tactical multiplayer game. This is WAR. You make the decision on how to play the field. You either die charging, or create tactics with your squad. You have the diversity of deciding what to do as if you are really stuck in war.

Campaign is very short at around 6hrs, it’s more of like a long tutorial to get you prepared for the online multiplayer. Nevertheless, the campaign is fantastic as well just like COD: IW. The campaign tells different heroic stories of characters from the different nations. How they fought their wars. The campaign really tells the beauty and pain of warfare perfectly. It’s amazing how Battlefield 1 has created such an emotional short campaign. Also to note, the music of the entire game is brilliant!

Moving to the online multiplayer aspect; as I mentioned, you decide how to approach the battlefield (pun slightly intended). Either you go for the different solider classes, vehicles, or artillery. You can also choose air or ground with vehicles available. It’s really a perfect replication of war. It’s so easy to die, and it’s also possible to be a hero. You can also charge ahead alone, or stick with your squad and build a strategy following your squad leader. This is both a strength and weakness to the game. Having a replication of real war means a lot of death, a huge map, and a lot of running at times and getting stabbed at the back. It’s war, bullets, mortars, artillery strikes everywhere. Just like war, it’s both beautiful and painful at times. Beautiful that you have many ways to battle the enemy, and painful that you can die so easily and randomly from a sudden mortar strike. I personally love and also hate BF1. I love the gameplay and love how it replicates war so perfect. I hate it as well for being perfectly similar to war that you can just so easily die. Oh and the soundtrack again, just so beautiful!

Titanfall 2 – Now this one is my fave here. beautiful campaign that tells the story of a battle for resources and control, and also shows the journey of man and machine creating a bond together. Amazing game! It has a story that can fit into a movie, seriously. Between COD: IW and Titanfall 2’s campaign stories? It’s a very hard decision but I’ll give a slight edge to TF2 for the latter part of the game. Of course I won’t tell as it will spoil the story for you haha!

Now TF2’s online multiplayer is extremely fun and exciting! Against COD: IW and BF1, TF2’s online multiplayer is much more exciting. COD: IW might have a faster pace by an inch, but the excitement of TF2 is far ahead even when you are not inside your Titan. You have abilities that really vary from each other like the hook  or the invisibility. Even Titans have very varying abilities. All these add to more levels of excitement with TF2’s multiplayer.

Imagine it, you can either hook up onto high places and shoot from above or have the invisibility skill instead to route around opponents. Then with your Titan, you can go melee with a huge sword, or use explosive shells and also flammable gas for longer damage duration. You can also have your Titan follow you or be on guard mode while you run around the map. Also possible to battle an enemy who is in a Titan by using anti-Titan weapons or by sneakily riding on its back and pulling out an energy core. Dying soon inside your Titan? Go self-destruct or just simply get out and let your Titan’s AI battle it out until it dies to save you. There’s so much level of variety in this game and it does not destroy the balance of the game at all! It actually balances the game perfectly. So many approaches both as human and even when you call-in your Titan. This game wins it for me! It’s just a bit sad that TF2 is overshadowed and is the underdog against BF1 and COD: IW because those two are staple common names for FPS online multiplayer already. I do really hope TF2 picks-up the pace with pulling in more players.

Conclusion: I hope you now get a clear picture of which game does what and which game is capable to give you whatever you need to enjoy. If you want a very fast pace run and gun shooter with a great campaign, go with Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare. If you want a perfect replica of the beauty and pains of war, complete with war’s true diversity of land, air, and sea while having an emotional campaign which is sadly very short, go for Battlefield 1. If seeking a game with a very exhilarating online multiplayer with great diversity, go for Titanfall 2.

  1. Great post! I also think Titanfall 2 is the best of the bunch. I know it’s going to be overshadowed by CoD and BF1, but I really hope the game is successful enough so we can get TF3. It was silly of EA to release the game one week apart from BF1.

    1. Thanks! πŸ™‚ I hope so too. I really liked the campaign and really enjoying the multiplayer. I prefer the multiplayer over BF1 actually. BF1 gets boring fast specially when the match is too chaotic. Sad that they used TF2 to take away some attention from COD: IW. TF2 could have gotten very big sales and number of players if it wasn’t squeezed in between the two. They should have used Battlefront for that instead haha

      1. Agree! Something like Battlefront would have sold well regardless just because of the Star Wars brand. πŸ˜›
